Quit or Get Back in the Game? November 12, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — aliar @ 2:10 am

Every day when I get on the internet the first thing I see is my home page.  I bet no one can guess what my home page is!!! . . .my blog, of course.  Well, actually, there’s no “of course” about it since I have not posted anything new in over a year.  At first it used to make me feel a little guilty, seeing my old picture of Mark in his dirty “concrete” clothes, but really I don’t even notice it any more except when Mark looks over my shoulder and makes some comment, like “Why don’t you just get rid of that thing?” or “Why don’t you get a different home page — one you actually use?!”  Maybe I should.  I guess I probably don’t want to get rid of something that was so fun . . . last year.  What makes some of us faithful to a blog and others of us tire of it after awhile?  My sibs are split right down the middle, in fact.  It’s pretty clear which of the four of us have the most in common in this area!  Anyway, I am trying to decide: should I quit or get back in the game?  Hopefully it won’t take me another year to figure it out.  Until then . . . happy blogging!

I wonder when they’re going to do this one on the Discovery channel?  Most days it’s even worse than this.

Summer Swimming Lessons August 24, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — aliar @ 4:41 pm

Here are some pictures of the kids during their swimming lessons this summer. They did great. They took 6 weeks of lessons in all and accomplished so much in that time. The whole family also went to open swim a lot to help them practice their skills. We’re planning to go one more time this coming Monday night. I’m hoping to keep them in the pool all winter long if I can.

Here are Micaiah and Mikaela learning to put their faces in the water and to use “big arms.”

The second to last day of each session is “safety day.” The next two pictures are of the kids learning to do CPR and how to rescue someone with a flotation device.

Update On Our Life April 8, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — aliar @ 2:13 am

Hello everyone,

Since I haven’t posted in awhile I thought I’d better update any and all of you who check out my blog on the upcoming plans of the Rivers fam.  In January Mark turned in his resignation to NEBC, effective May 1.  We have been sending resumes to several churches and have heard back from at least one, but so far we don’t have a pastorate/ministry to move directly to.  We are planning to move to Wyoming on May 14 to stay with my parents for awhile, while we continue to seek God’s will.  We are open to several different options including starting a new church, so we are just waiting and praying that God will give us His wisdom.  We have been sad and happy at the same time.  We are leaving so many close friends here, including Mark’s parents to whom we are very close.  At the same time, we are going to see my parents and give them a chance to get to know the kids better.  Also, Kim is still in Wyoming, and I’m looking forward to being with her more often–not to mention the fact that we’re excited to see what God has planned for our lives.  We know it can only be good, and I am comforting myself with that fact every time I get sad about leaving all that we love here.  If you think of it, pray for us.  We surely need it!  If you want to see updated pictures of the kids, and some funny Mali videos, click on the link to my Vox blog located in my widget on the right.

Hey everyone!  I’ve been putting more pictures and videos of the kids on my Vox blog.  I didn’t want to get rid of this one because of my links to other bloggers, but Vox is so much easier to load pictures and videos to.  You have to have a Vox account and be added to my friends and family to view, but I hope you will.  It’s a lot of fun.  See you on Vox.

Harmony prepares to do a PK Turn.  She has to do three in a row in her routine.  She really does them well when she’s not too busy paying attention to what the other girls are doing.

Malachi really gets a kick out his feats of derring do.  He likes to balance standing up on the arm of this rocking chair.  So far I haven’t gotten a picture of him doing it due to the fact that taking pictures of him seems to encourage his behavior.  (What a little show-off!)   Today he climbed up on Micaiah’s desk chair and from there on top of Micaiah’s desk.  It would have been quite a fall if I hadn’t gotten him off in time.

This is just one angle of Micaiah’s huge Geo Trax set-up.  He makes great tracks and uses every single piece he owns.  The hardest part is cleaning it up–it covers the entire floor of his room, and that’s saying a lot since he has the most floor-space in his bedroom than any of the rest of us.  You can see more pictures of this set-up on his Vox blog.

Some Christmas Pictures January 10, 2007

Filed under: Pictures — aliar @ 4:04 am

I am sad to say I don’t have many pictures from Christmas. It seemed like everywhere I went someone was taking pictures of the kids, my nieces and nephews, etc. I was kind of surprised when I saw how few I actually had on my camera. I realize now that I have to actually take the pictures with my own camera in order to save them to my own computer and put them up on my own blog. Go figure, huh? In all the craziness, we kept forgetting to bring our camera to all the places we went. Anyway, here are some pictures from Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Maybe I can beg some photos off of those of you who were smart enough to take some?!?!

Happy Birthday Malachi! December 22, 2006

I realize this is quite late in coming, however I’m assuming you all think it’s better late than never.  So here are some pictures from Mali’s birthday–almost 1 month ago.  He’s a sweetie, and God has blessed us so much with him.
